Dear Friends, Family, Fans and Abolish the Crate Federation Members,
Jones turned three years old this month and still thinks he knows everything. That said, you can imagine what a three years it has been for me (and Mom). Mom joined several Wine of the Month clubs, and I have spent so much money on therapy since Jones hit puberty that I had to pick up a part time job. I ended up working for Jones at Sticks, Inc., picking up sticks. My pay barely covers my therapy expenses, but other than that, I enjoy the work.
In addition to running Sticks Inc., Jones has been busy with other pursuits. This past Christmas he was inspired by Toys for Tots and established Sticks for Pups. Sticks for Pups, a non-profit organization, provides sticks for shelter dogs and “city” dogs who have limited to no access to sticks. Surprisingly, Sticks for Pups has been wildly popular. Jones said he never doubted its success simply because he refuses to listen to naysayers.
Jones may fancy himself not a naysayer, but the birthday hat might disagree…
Which brings us to another goal Jones set for himself which is to learn a new word every day and use it in conversation. That brings us to the word naysayer. Now, I’m not quite sure Jones really understands the meaning of naysayer because when I kindly point out the error of his ways, like when he won’t stop jumping on me, he always says, “Don’t be a naysayer!”
Jones has also been working on personal growth, mostly learning not to have his brain explode when he is excited (what humans refer to as “over arousal”). I know many of you are familiar with the, “Settle and Then Run” (SATR) organization which has achieved cult status among border collies. Jones accidentally found out about SATR while googling fun places to run in middle Tennessee. He liked the website and became a member. I suggested Jones check out the pack at Sprinting Around because, as a longstanding board member, I could run interference for him if needed (and we all know it will be needed). Jones’ response to my suggestion? “I believe SATR is better than Sprinting Around.” When asked why he thought that, Jones simply said, “I just do. Stop being a naysayer.”
I have always used my birthday for a time of personal reflection, giving serious thought to the past and what I would like to accomplish in the upcoming year. So, I asked Jones how he felt about turning 3 years old and what he had learned thus far. Without hesitation, Jones said, “I had an epiphany (there’s another new word) which I’ll explain. When I was 1 year old, I knew very little. Then I turned 2 and I knew some more. So, it stands to reason that when I turn 3, I will know all I need to know.”
Alas, I see another long year ahead. I need to call my therapist.
There you have it. Chapter and verse.
